Is it because of ergonomics/speed in gaming, or just because most games suck at supporting its features?

It's terrible ergonomics for the most part. Also if your game needs a scroll wheel you can forget using the Magic Mouse.

quite nice but tbh its too much, id just go with the apple magic mouse at that price

Well, as far mouses go, the Logitech one is vastly superior to the Magic mouse (both in ergonomy and performance).

I personally found Logitech products, especially their G-series,poorly supported to OS X, with drivers for macros, DPI, etc either missing or be versions behind their Windows counterparts.

I would say: Go for Razer. A tad overprice, but they got some of the best. My personal favour is the Deathadder. Really ergonomic.

I've used a Razer Orochi for years. I still it sometimes if I'm having a quick skrim with colleagues.

There is allegedly a beta of Logitech gaming software for OS X floating around somewhere.

Overpriced and under-quality, both in terms of hardware and software. Their mice have never lasted me more than couple months without something breaking. Synapse 2.0 is a miserable experience.

I use Steermouse with my Logitech MX 518, and all is right with the world. Yeah, it stinks having to pay what Logitech should be providing, but considering the fact that Logitech's Windows software has been going down the toilet lately, I'm not bothered at all.

A beta not supporting all products...

Personally my Deathadder is like a beast. I am a tad "aggressive" to my mouse, taking all around me, throwing it at stuff when angry :p and it still ok... As I said I angry they are overpriced, especially in the high-end (Mamba, Naga, etc).

My favourite mouses, which lasted me years were an MX518 and a G5.

As with everything else in this world, your mileage may vary depending on usage. For me, I have been very happy with Razer--I don't even remember the model but I still use the Razer on my iMac that I bought in 2008--and very happy with my Imperator so far.
