I was waiting for the iMac announcement to move from my 27 inch late 2013. Now starting to also look seriously at Mac mini as the new 24" iMac is not for me.

I also believe the pricing for the larger iMac when it comes is going to be high and if it keeps a similar form factor to the new 24 inch I am not a fan. Also if they decide the larger screen is going to be labelled as Pro it will have an additional premium attached for the privilege.

But the final decider is gaming. I am not a heavy gamer but I do use bootcamp on my iMac to play games. The combination of the M1 chip and no ability to use the iMac screen with a PC is a big influence.

So I am resigned to having to build a gaming PC ( when I can get hold of a GPU ) and getting an M1 Mac mini for my everyday needs. The big problem is the monitor. I want at least 4k (not a fan of widescreen) but would like a 30-32 inch which can run games but more importantly works and looks good with the Mac OS. Tough call as I am lost with all the options on this. Any suggestions welcome.

I am in a simialr boat as you, minus the gaming PC. I have 2012 27" iMac that for the past year have been looking to retire. The Apple Silicon iMac was something I was holding off, but seeing how 24" speced out to my liking costs $2100, i can only imagine that 27-30" model will be closer to $3000 when released, so hard pass for me.

I ended up with a refurb mac mini which saved me $200 of regular price (16 GB/1TB model) and got this monitor - U2719DX

It is not a gaming monitor by any means and it is only 1440p, but that is what I have on my iMac and I am perfectly content with, so I decided to not spend money on 4k/5k screen which would only hold me off during occasional gaming (Diablo/WoW)
