gaming on the 2011 MBPs

I've been waiting on the refresh for awhile and I must say, I'm quite disappointed (no boot SSD, no high res standard, lame battery). However, I still need a new Mac, and was planning to buy the lower-end 15". I'm not all that tech savvy, so could someone let me know how the thing would handle games? It's not the biggest concern, and however it functions, it'll be miles above the 2006 macbook I'm using right now, but any ideas how it would benchmark with some popular games? will the 256mb throttle my performance? thanks!
