Is it possible to communicate directly from iPhone to iPhone over Edge/3G, outside of WiFi, using Bonjour?

Would part of the process be creating a directory server with a known location to manage available client IPs?

I started work on implementing WiFi connections today, and pretty much have that figured out. But I'm still very unsure as to what exactly Bonjour is, and what is designed to do.

Any help would be a big relief.
Thanks,
Josh Rosen
