what do you use, i just got my new sexy uMBP and i think the 2.2 looks better, i think it looks deeper, where 1.8 looks more washed out? or is it supposed to look that way, i feel like what ever you set it at you get used to and will look normal either way... should i keep it on 1.8? i guess most will say do whatever looks better to you, but do you get what i say?

also, the screen i have is model 9c84 if that mean anything

A lot of it is personal preference but in my experience 2.2 is the way to go. I am friends with a couple of professional photographers and they swear by 2.2 if that helps to influence you at all.

Gamma 2.2 is the way to go...even though i personally use Gamma 2.0

As others have already said, 2.2 is probably the best way to go, especially if you prefer it. 2.2 is the default for PCs, so if you're doing any form of graphic design, especially web design, it's recommended to switch to that. Additionally 2.2 does give you higher contrast so everything looks richer. I believe I've read they're switching the default to 2.2 in Snow Leopard somewhere.

At the end of the day though you should use whatever looks best to you :)
