Hi guys,

Probably just me being anal about my £1000 purchase.

On the 13" MBP, on the left part of the hinge there is a small gap, but none on the right hand side.

Is this normal?

Thanks!!

You know what? After looking, mine has the exact same gap. I don't know if it's an issue, but I do know that the left side of the hinge is also loose and makes a clicking noise. I'm gonna take it to the Apple Store when I get a chance and see if they can tighten it.

Normal.

I've seen this on many Macbook Air and Retina MBPs. There are some tolerances on both sides of the hinge which can be adjusted internally but it's not worth the trouble.

I can confirm the gap exists, however on mine it's the opposite side. May be an access point for techs?

DEM PIXELS BE HUGE.
If there was no gap, the plastic would rub against the aluminum and it would be a bad day, it's there by design. :p

The other side is flush though..

I know, do you not however have the mechanical ability to understand the fact that if it were to be flush AT BOTH ENDS that it would rub against it. If there is a gap at one end and no gap at the other, it means that the end where there is no gap, the plastic is just touching, and not actually being pushed up against, as there is room for breathing on the other side. Ok?

Mine has the gap on the right side. Nothing to worry about, it's so the screen can be opened and closed easily and so it can be realigned if needed.

You can actually slide the clutch cover back to the center - it moves from left to right quite easily ;).
