Garage Band for newbs?

Hi all, I want to get started using Garage Band but I can't seem to figure much out on my own. Can you point me in the right direction?

I am a musician and I would love to be able to do some basic recording of my guitar etc. and lay some backing tracks. What do I need as an interface? Thanks
