Garage Band Importing from CD?

I want to make a real basic mix of a few songs for someones dance recital (sp) basically cut a few songs together. But I can't figure out how to import the tracks off the cd into garage band any ideas?

You can copy the files off as AIFFs or use iTunes to rip them from the CD then just drag/drop it into Garageband.

but is there any way to do this without the extra step? i.e. straight from cd track into garageband. I'm working with long audio files, and its just that much longer to import into itunes then again into garageband.
