I have a cheap little usb keyboard that I use in Garageband. It sounds great but I have a problem doing drums with it. It seems that the bass drum is lower than my keyboard allows me to go. Is there any way of changing the octaves that a keyboard controls so I could lower down to the bass drum? I found the bass using the software keyboard but it is just a few notes lower than my keyboard goes.

What kind of keyboard is it? On my Midi Keyboard, (m-audio Oxygen 8) there is a button that will increase or decrease the octaves...

It has no buttons or anything. Just keys. I looked again last night through GB and couldn't find anyway to change the octaves that the keyboard plays.

I think you need to open the Typing keyboard in Garageband (i forget how you open that,) but it's the little virtual keyboard in Garageband that you would use your regular typing keyboard with to make sounds...

And in that, there is a way/key to lower or increase the octaves....it might be the + - buttons?

Anyway, that's just my theory.

good luck

The only thing the musical typing keyboard changes is the octaves of the actual keyboard. It doesn't change the midi keyboard. I guess I could do some with the typing keyboard and some with the usb.

I know this is an ancient post, but I haven't found any other information related to this anywhere.

I have a MIDI keyboard that can't adjust octaves on the hardware, and I don't want to use musical typing.

I figure there must be a way to access octaves lower than C1! My keyboard starts at C1 and I cannot figure out how to get Garageband to allow me to play notes lower than that via my MIDI keyboard.

Any suggestions other than musical typing or getting a new keyboard?

I cannot Get any audio in Musical Typing

I created a new track and did everything i'm supposed to. The keys are still corresponding with the keyboard but there is no sound coming out at all. I checked my in put and out put settings and there is still no response.

HELP?!

I have the exact same problem.. And its not only in Garageband. I have also downloaded a virtual keyboard application and the keys are responding, but I get no sound.

I would be Very grateful for help on this matter!

As for the changing of octaves, not sure on that one, but for the issue of no sound, have you checked in system prefs to make sure that audio output is set to your speakers and not a midi device or other device on your network. I had the same thing happen, and found that once the output got set to midi...I had no midi output device, and the other time it all seemed good, but it had gotten set somewhere to output audio through my AppleTV...didn't figure that one out til I happened to have the TV on while messing with the GB and keyboard.

Good luck,
