Garage Band Virtual Keyboard-Useless?

So...just completed my first song in GB...remarkably cool app...*very* pleased. One question though...what's the deal with the virtual keyboard that appears on the screen when you begin the program? I tried using it, but there's no way you could actually play a song using that thing...unless, of course, they were able to make the computer keyboard into a mini piano keyboard...now *there's* an idea...the A-L keys could be the white keys and the line above could be the black keys...they could even sell a little piano keyboard that would fit on top of the computer keyboard...
