GarageBand 08 freezes when i hit record

I was recording some stuff (rather trying to record stuff) and when i hit the record button, GB froze. About a minute later it started to record though, so reinstalled the program and it still happens. What could be the cause of this?

Have you ever used GarageBand without this happening?

Not on this machine. Other thing like Audacity record just fine though. For now i've been recording in audacity then exporting to wav, then importing to garageband and its a giant pita.
