ok so when i worked with pro tools last semester, it had a pretty nice feature that i believe was called "step recording." basically i picked the value of the note/chord and then played it on a keyboard, and it recorded the notes i played for the value of the note i selected.

is there any way i can do this with garageband, instead of just recording in real time?

'fraid not. It's in Logic Express though.

As an alternative, you could change the tempo of your song to 40bpm then timestretch it (assuming you want step recording to make things easier to play?)

yeah, it just makes the process easier and less sloppy sounding. putting in chords and stuff can be a pain doing it in real time. oh well... guess i'll have to wait until i get something better than garageband, thanks for the help!
