I have a sound sample that I'd like to be able to play as an instrument i.e. transpose it in order to make a complete tune on the on-screen keyboard. After some browsing, I can't really find a straightforward answer. Any ideas?

you can use a sampling keyboard or a software sampler

edit: i was beaten to it, just realised

so what was the free one you found for os x?

Actually, what I found turned out not to be what I really wanted in the end, sadly. I believe what I really needed was something that could create a soundfont, but googling how to create soundfonts has left me none-the-wiser.
