Garageband Files Version 10.0 vs 10.1

I went through the headache of re-saving all my garageband 6 files as garageband 10 files.
Now in 10.1, when I open one saved as a garageband 10 file, it wants me to SAVE AS - I cannot natively open a garageband 10.0 file in 10.1?? This is crazy. Is there some workaround to avoid having to do this AGAIN?
