As a piano student, I'm quite excited about Garageband for iPad. I have a piano with a MIDI connection which I've been using with Garageband for Mac but on an iPad it will be much more convenient.
However, Steve wasn't clear whether this would be possible. He explicitly mentioned that you can plug in a guitar and this is shown in the promotional materials for the app, but he also said that you can play with real instruments without mentioning which.
In Garageband for Mac, voice is considered "an instrument" so he may have been referring to that but I'm holding out hope that we'll be able to plug in a MIDI keyboard.
