Hi,

Just purchased a MacBook Pro 2009,
OS X El Capitan version 10.11.6, and would like to install Garageband, but not sure which version of GB would be compatible for this OS.. I've researched online but it's confusing at best.. any advice would be helpful..

On my 2010 MBP (which also has El Cap) the version of GarageBand is 5.1.

Have you tried going to the App Store, to see if you could download it there?

If you can't download GB from the App Store, there are (cough, choke) "other ways" to obtain it. I didn't see version 5, but do see version 6 "available".

Other options:
Try version 6 of GarageBand. It MAY NOT RUN on El Cap (I can't answer that), but it might. Only way to find out is to give it a try.

You might consider upgrading the MBP to Low Sierra. I'm wondering if GB would get installed (by default) during the upgrade?

Thanks for your feedback Fishrrman.
