My son saved his money and purchased an eMac (an Apple eMac G4 1Ghz, 512Mb Ram, 40Gb HD, running OS-X 10.4.2)
He purchased it for Garageband - but it had been uninstalled, I guess.
We bought a copy of iLife 4 (with Garageband), but as it turns out the eMac G4 does NOT have a DVD drive (only a CD drive), so Garageband can't be installed. It's on DVD.
I put all the Garageband files on an external USB drive (by using a Mac at Kinkos). I then hooked the USB drive up to the eMac and tried to install.
Upon clicking on the INSTALL file, it gave the error:
=====
The volume for "Install" cannot be found.
Insert the disk or connect to the server volume and wait for it to appear on the desktop, then try again. (OK)
======
I assume it's looking for the DVD drive, which doesn't in this case exist. I put all the Garageband files on his eMac and tried again. Same error.
QUESTION: Does anybody have an idea on how to "trick" the install and get it to find the files where they are (either on the USB drive or the harddrive) so it will install?
Or is there another way to get Garageband working?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks, Kelvin
