Hello there all. I was hoping someone would be able to help me.

I have a mid-2012 Macbook Pro (with one audio jack) running Yosemite and I recently purchased an iRig 2 by IK Multimedia in order to record guitar. Now, the iRig plugs in through the single audio-jack and the headphones then plug into the hardware itself. Technically, it works quite well. Very clean sounding guitar, at least at first.

The problem I've found is that because the Mac acknowledges it as the built-in mic for internal audio and the external audio for the headphones, when recording with more than one track it gets messy. Tracking guitar to a metronome is bad enough but a full drum track or other guitar parts is awful because Garageband records all of these again so during playback it's a mess of noise and feedback. I can't very easily mute everything because I'll be incredibly out of time.

Any ideas for solutions to this issue? Unplugging the headphones from the iRig means no external audio since the Mac thinks there's still headphones plugged in. I'm all out of ideas so far.

Thanks.
