So I had some musical noodles created in GarageBand on iPad. Today I needed to access them on my phone, and there they all were in iCloud.

I opened some of them, but hit a silly sound library issue meaning I couldn't easily open them on my phone (that's another story) so I gave up.

But now on the iPad I can't open the files because my phone updated them to a newer version of GarageBand, and my iPad can't be updated to the same version.

Any workarounds for this? Any roll back method on iCloud? I don't use Time Machine on my Mac currently.

There were no warnings on the phone that I was going to get locked out, so this is pretty low of Apple but they do this all the time and it's on me for not being vigilant. These aren't critical files (I don't trust Apple apps with real work for this reason), and I could easily make them again, but I'd rather not if possible.

If anyone find themselves in the same boat, I fixed it and here's how to do it...

On a Mac, browse to iCould Drive and find the GarageBand for iOS folder.

Right click on the .band file that Apple has locked you out of and select 'Show Package Contents'

Inside the package is a file called projectData. Open it in a text editor.

Close to the top of the file, find this line:
<string>2.3.17</string>

Change it to:
<string>2.3.16</string>

Near the bottom of the file, find these lines:
<key>CbVersion</key>
<integer>80000</integer>

Change the integer value to
<integer>75000</integer>
