Garageband Question

Hi, This is my first post...

I am using Garageband and I just purchased an ONYX 1220 mixer with a firewire card. I hooked up a Mic to channel 1 on the mixer and I am able to hear my voice through the phones and through garageband, I am also able to record my voice via garageband. The problem is that if I mess with the mixers EQ levels, it does not come out in the recording, my voice that is recorded is regular no change.. I have the EQ botton in the (in) position.. can someone let me know why garageband is not recording the EQ effects? what am I doing wrong?..

Awesome mixer, good choice. The behaviour is normal because the Firewire out is pre-EQ.

From the Mackie website:
"Q. Where do the Recording Outs and Firewire output take their signal from in the channel strip? How about the Firewire output from the Mains?

A. Both outputs (Recording Out and Firewire) are Post-Gain, Pre-Insert, Pre-EQ, Pre-Mute, Pre-Fader. The Main Out tap is Pre-Main Mix fader. This allows for the greatest possible flexibility in both live and recording studio scenarios. When you're using the mixer for live sound, you can record your show without having to worry about changes to the FOH system showing up on your recording. In the studio, this configuration allows you to record the cleanest signal possible while allowing you to apply EQ, compression, and effects during mixdown."

Your options are to use the Digital EQ in your software, or to patch the Onyz so that the post-EQ output is run back through an input so the EQ will be recorded. (I haven't studied the manual to figure out the best way of doing that. you'll want to watch you don't create a feedback loop...)
