Hi everyone,

I use a Macbook Air OS X Yosemite, Version 10.10.5 and Garageband Version 10.1.6.

I want to record my voice over a karaoke MP3 track and use headphones (to listen to the mp3) and the built-in mic (to record my voice). When I record my voice, you can hear the music playing in the background on the voice track. I don't understand why it is so, because it seems impossible that the mic would pick up the music into the recording vocal track, since I am listening to the music over headphones. I can't find any solution for this on the net, please help!

I want to be able to listen to the music while I sing (record), but have a clean recorded audio track with my voice only, without the background music.

Thanks in advance!

Are you using "open" headphones, or "closed ear" headphones that completely cover the ears?

I've tried with both and the result is the same!

My suggestion would be to try a recording where you play the karaoke MP3 track to your headphones from a separate device (iPod, iPhone, etc.) to rule out the possibility of any internal feedback of the output channel back to the audio input on your computer.

Also, headphones don't provide perfect isolation, so obviously it helps to reduce the volume of the karaoke MP3 track while you are recording your voice.

Good luck!
