Garageband Sluggish on 1.5 Core Solo

"No escape from Reality...”
Anyone experiencing sluggish performance in Garageband on:

Mini, 1.5 GHz Core Solo, 1 Gig RAM

running OS X 10.4.7 (latest?).

Recording about 40 min of voice via a Lexicon Omega Pro Audio box on USB.
