Ive been using an old version of garage band (5.1) perfectly successfully to put together radio shows - one track for voice, one or two tracks for audio imports from i-tunes. This has worked fine until this weekend when trying to play back the results there was complete silence - with the occasional burst of sound showing that all my connections and settings are ok (I knew they were, i haven't changed anything) - what on earth is going on? the pre-recordi is due for broadcast in 4 days so this really is quite urgent PLEASE HELP!

Do you have your original voice track? Is it just this particular file/project that is not functioning?

Need a little more to go on than what you have covered.

both the vocal track and music tracks are visible and (rarely) audible. This problem has never happened before. On one attempt at the last session it happened after having paused and returned to the start, once having simply paused and restarted without returning to the beginning. When the tracks were, briefly, audible both vocal and music tracks played. As far as I know no alterations were made in the settings - it's a mystery to me, thanks for your quick response.

the music track was affected as well as the vocal track, at the same time (although naturally the two rarely coincide given that it is a radio show)

Why don't you try and create a new project, then bring the voice track into the new project and see if it will output there [create new project, import 'old' voice track, move voice to a new track, then delete all the other tracks].

I take it you do not have just the original recording as a separate project/file?

We can talk about your workflow after the crisis; in the mean time, let's see if we can restore you audio...

Do you have Time machine setup? Do you have a backup of the file prior to the issue?
