Garageband: Using Loops as Software instruments?

Hey all, I need to add a steady bass drum beat to a song. I can't do that because my song, when imported into garageband (it's a regular song, not garageband made) ignores the tempo markings. So when I add the Bass Kick it's offbeat.

I would love to be able to control exactly when the drum hits using my MacBook's keyboard. Or is it possible to import it directly as a software instrument so I can play it that way? (I don[t have a bass drum lying around lol)

Any help is appreciated.

PS. the "bass" drums in the software instrument drum kits aren't really deep enough.
