Hi, this morning i turned on my Powerbook g4 1.25mhz os x 10.5 and it worked fine for about 5 minutes then the screen became garbled. The screen itself seems fine but the video is garbled (you can kinda make out whats on the screen if you look hard enough). I rebooted, tried different ram (ok i was grasping at straws...) is it likely a motherboard issue? I am thinking the video hardware on the motherboard is failing? please any advice on how i can troubleshoot or fix this would be most appreciated.

Your guess about the video controller on the board failing sounds right on par with what I would guess. You can also try hooking it up to an external monitor to see how the video looks there. If its okay on an external, its probably the LVDS cable that runs from the internal LCD to the logicboad. Could be starting to tear or has simply come loose.
Sometimes the video cable connectiong the screen to the logicboard can get loose this has happened to me a few times if you are able, try wiggling the connector while the laptop is powered on. If this is the issue you will see simular effects on the screen as you do this.
