Interesting story in the Chicago Tribune with Gates promoting Longhorn.

Link. May need free login.

Q. We heard today about how big Longhorn is to the industry. How big is it to Microsoft? Is it the thing that's going to get the stock going, get people thinking Microsoft is a hot, sexy company again?

A. Well, we are the hot, sexy company. I don't know what you mean. Look at our valuation versus other companies in our industry. We are the highest-valued company in our industry, and, obviously, we maintain that by doing great software work.

You've got Office and Windows. You can keep using those, but it doesn't generate any new revenue to us, even though you're getting immense value out of that. And so it's through innovation that we're able to have revenue at all. So to keep our incredible sales level up, that's why we're always doing breakthroughs in Office, breakthroughs in Windows.
Is that "breakthroughs" or "breakdowns"?

Windows? Hot & sexy?

My arse...

I don't know what you mean. Look at our valuation versus other companies in our industry.

To a robot like Bill Gates, that is the definition of hot & sexy. He's a seriously uninteresting guy...

Well, to be fair to Bill. he's not really the one who brought up the idea of "hot and sexy".

The person who asked said "will this make MS hot and sexy again?"

What's he going to say? "Well, I really don't think we were hot and sexy in the first place."

But, yes, Blue Velvet, the man lacks a drop of charisma.

Billy's dream was always to become a supermodel... ;)

I wondered how long it would take to bring that photo up...;)

After one look at those images, they're not the only thing that is going to be brought up... my lunch, for a start.

I'm sorry but he looks like a tired but cocky smug little sh*t. :)

I think Bill Gates must have regretted posing for those pictures, it just will not go away... :D

NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!

you scared the siht out of me! :p

one more thing... was that a BSOD?!

Please don't include those pictures in your quote. Seeing them once is more than enough.

The only thing hot OR sexy about those photos is the Mac Classic sitting in the background of the top image.
Nice catch! :D

Loaded question. What else is he gonna say? If he comes back with anything shaky, it would have led to more questions - antitrust, gaping security, etc.

What alarms me is I think Gates really believes it. Like I posted on another thread, there is nothing wrong with being un-hip. But when the un-hip start thinking they are slick, problems arise.

Case in point that glazed donut Rob Glaser...

This is Microsoft's usual behavior. They think that if they shout it loud enough, all the time, people will start believing it.
