Its unfortunate that Gates retains the "wealthiest" crown. Why not pass it on to someone else......like me! :) ;)

Heck, I would settle for only a couple billion dollars.
I mean, does the guy really need $51 billion?! ;)

Actually, his worth would be almost $100 billion if he hadn't already endowed his charitable foundation with close to $50 billion worth of Microsoft stock. He's on record as saying that he will NOT be leaving his kids a ton of money, since he believes that tends to have a negative effect on the kids. (Paris Hilton and Athena Onassis, anyone?)

notice about 4 of the top 5 wealthiest people are college drop outs. maybe that is why balmer couldn't get "developers" right.

I'd settle for homeownership. *ucking San Diego.

Man. I'm all for a free market and allowing people to work hard and honestly to earn as much money as they can, but it is kind of sickening to think about how much some of those people have. I always figured if I won a modest lottery jackpot of around $10M, I'd be set for life - and a rather cushy one at that. :D The top 22 are each worth at least 1000 times that!

What if they all kept a very generous $50M for themselves and gave the rest to charity? Would it even make a difference in the grand scheme of things? I notice the 5 Waltons all make the top 10 as usual. Seems like they could afford to pay their lowly employees just a bit more with all that cash. I wonder what that would come out to, per worker.

Of course, as I said, I'm very much against any limit on how much money someone can make, but this stuff sure makes you think twice...

Well unfortunately yes it would make a difference. Most of the money they have is invested in stocks and other securities. If they pulled out all that money from the economy, it would be total chaos in the economic world.

Good point. How much do you all think these guys have in their liquid account for just buying stuff when they want?

Ballmer is insufferable ... I cannot imagine having to deal with this poster boy for obnoxious and boorish behavior on the part of a so-called adult given his lofty position. If any people interacting with him call him SB for short, please let the true meaning of SB be stupid bastard.

Well lets say Gates has only 1 billion out of all his assets.. in a money market account @ 4% .. thats approximately $111,111 a day he's making! Their money is all spread out.. stocks, forex (currency trading) money market accounts, the super rich have only one way to go.. higher up on the financial scale. Most of the time, these guys don't invest their money in a US account where the interest rates are max 4.25% (for a CD) .. they'll hold it in an overseas bank which has a higher interest rate..something like 6%.

It could also have a negative effect on the parents; the child finds out that he will not get $50 billion from his parents and subsequently slays them. ;)

They'll just have to get accustomed to the harsh idea of inheriting perhaps a mere 15-25 million apiece. One can only hope they'll find a way to struggle through the remaining decades.

On the bright side, there will always be Windoze in their lives. Should they smile now? On second thought, when they get older and look at the operating system their dad brought to the masses, they may decide to kill him afterall.
