I'm trying to transfer some old audio tapes and edit them.
Just purchased and plugged in the ADVC-55. Imovie recognizes and captures the feed from my reel to reel only when a video signal is active (so I have an old 8mm video camera feeding a live signal). I don't need the video but am unable to figure out how to work with the audio only and output an audio file.
So, I thought GB would work but I cannot get GB to see the firewire signal of the ADVC-55.
Is there a fix (or perhaps I should say an idiot switch that I'm missing) or do I need other software such as FCE to get only audio in and an audio file out?
Update: Further reading has cleared up my problem. The Mic input on my Macbook pro also functions as line-in and all i needed was an RCA to mini-pin adapter ($5.00 at radio shack). The ADVC-55 puts out a DV signal which is not recognized by the Garageband software (or Audacity which I'm now using). Still, will need the ADVC to transfer old 8mm video in time to embarrass my kids as adults.
