OK, my home theater system is using a Acoustic Research XSight Touch (XST) universal remote. I chose this remote over a Harmony because it actually _can_ without any extra parts or senders, control both IR and RF devices transparently. Works great with my Mits DLP, Yamaha AVR, Panny Blu-Ray, and DirecTV HR20 Receiver.
So a few months back I got my AppleTV working with a remote Media drive and I love it. Keeps my grandkids from handling all our DVDs and rubbing them on the tile floor LOL. This works great and now I want to integrate the ATV into my XST remote. Because the ATV has no power switch and whenever I turn the AVR on and off, the ATV goes dead and has to be power cycled. To get around that I bought a Belkin Power Strip with a RF remote. So I have the Belkin remote to power cycle the ATV, then the XST to control the AVR/TV, and the little white ATV remote to control the ATV. Too many remotes LOL.
Update: Found out from AR's Tech Support guy that while the XST remote can do both IR and RF, the RF is limited to DirecTV functionality so you can't do multiple RF devices in combination with IR devices.
So I want to "add" the ATV to the list of devices in the XST remote and the online wizard sequence includes using "Model Numbers" and I'm at a loss for a model number for the ATV and the Apple remote. So... long story short... anyone here using an XST remote to control an ATV, and are there specific model numbers for the remote? In the ATV menu, I see an option for using a "universal" remote but it wants you to find an "empty" position on the remote and then teach it. Don't know if I can do that with this remote.
Update: Found out that unlike some older universal remotes with a slide switch to pick a "section" to devote to some additional device/functions, the XST just keeps adding devices.
What is still puzzling is whether or not I have to "unpair" the ATV remote before it will accept commands from a "universal" remote, and if I unpair the ATV remote... can I still use it to "teach" the XST remote which means placing the ATV remote emitter in-line with the XST remote's detector.
Any/all help would be appreciated!
Mike
