This is more of a general interest topic than a help inquiry. I just installed Snow Leopard last night on my 2.8 GHz 15" uMBP and as per the promise that apple made me I did experience some freed up hard disk space.

Apple said around 7 GB, I got around 36.26 GB back (yes, you are reading that correctly 36 freaking GB). I was just wondering what everyone else had seen with the upgrade? Has anyone seen more than this, because I was quite literally flabbergasted at the amount of recovered space.

What do you think? I don't know what was taken away but I know I'm happy with the extra space.

You did NOT gain 36GB of hdd space. SL counts hdd space in base 10 instead of base 2.

But you do gain some space. Apple has stopped including the PPC libraries/framworks and has implemented a compression mechanism in the file system. Both of mean that SL is physically utilizing less space
