iOS Generate SMS within iPhone App?

Is it possible to generate an SMS message from within my application?

For example, I want to 'tell a friend' about my application via SMS -> BUT <- I want to be from the USER and NOT an SMS gateway?

Is this possible to do?

You can open the SMS app via an sms:// url but you cannot auto-send one or anything like that.
