anyone use a generic data/charge cable such as this one? http://www.cellphoneshop.net/3in1chforip.html

I read it will say on the iphone not authentic cable attached or something like that but will still work, is that true?
I was just looking for a back up data cable and a car adapter. thanks

I bought a retractable sync cable for my iPhone 3G from Monoprice.com for around $2, and it works like a pro. Haven't had an issue with it at all.

I would never buy a replacement sync cable from Apple. It's about as big of a rip-off as Monster cable, or Apple RAM.

Seconded, Thirded, and closed! Copper is copper, generic cords without the logo work exactly the same as the way more expensive brand cable with a logo on it. Many "generic" cable makers are the OEM Manufacturer for the big companies.

To make a long story short, yes, use a third party cable, you will not harm anything, end everything will work great.
