I recall reading some years back that USB 2 had a speed issue: that slower devices tended to constrain bus speed such that a fast external drive might have its performance choked somewhat by slower devices living on the bus (FW was supposed to be a better performer with a mix of stuff). I have not read up on USB 3, perhaps it has improved protocols.
My question is, if you take your slowest devices off the bus (keyboard and mouse -> BT), does USB performance observably improve?
