My 15" 2012 Retina Macbook Pro lags like crazy when switching desktops and opening applications. Screen also flickers.

Had it repaired before but the issues came back. Geniuses said I was out of warranty so they just did a Software Repair.

For proposed resolution, it says "Run ASD EFI and OS".

Anyone know what that does and if it will help at all? I'm pretty sure its a hardware issue btw.

How much will it cost for the repair? I should've gotten apple care with my mac. But nothing is wrong yet :)

ASD EFI & OS is Apple Software Diagnosic, the EFI based version, OS is the Mac OS X based version. It's a long-form hardware diagnostic to determine hardware faults.

ASD in itself doesn't do repairs, but it's often ran if you're trying to track down a hardware fault. That being said, within MRI, the NetBoot environment from which ASD is launched does have some repair elements in it.
