Ok so I got dualboot setup and was working. I could boot into Mac and or Gentoo. Then all of the sudden I could not boot into Mac anymore. I would get grey screen with dark grey apple logo. I would get the spinning line wheel and it would just sit there. Let me explain how I did all this:

  • Installed Mac on single partition
  • Did all the updates
  • Ran boot camp partitioner and hit save and do later
  • Installed Refit. Rebooted twice to make sure it worked
  • Rebooted and started to install gentoo

So here is what I did for the partition table

  • sda1 efi
  • sda2 Mac
  • sda3 Linux Root
  • sda4 Swap

For installing grub I did

  • root (hd0,2)
  • setup (hd0,2)

After install and I rebooted I had refit sync the mbr. I shutdown and started back up. Everything worked. Then a few days later I could not longer boot into the mac side of things. Any ideas why? I have the white macbook 5,2
