Canadian music and TV personality George Stroumboulopoulos will kick off a Canadian "takeover" of Beats 1 with an hourlong segment on July 2 at 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time, Apple has confirmed to the Financial Post.

Part entertainment, part education, these hour-long sessions are a chance for local talent to shine a light on a particular country's artists for people around the world, or even someone unaware down the street. Now it is Canada's turn to take the stage for the first time.
Stroumboulopoulos most recently served as the main host of Canada's popular Hockey Night in Canada show, but he will be replaced by his predecessor Ron MacLean as of the 2016-17 NHL season. The 43-year-old is also known as being a former VJ for Canadian music channel MuchMusic and for hosting the CBC talk show George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, formerly The Hour, from 2005 to 2014.
"People have spent decades trying to discuss who Canadians are, so it's impossible to accomplish such a big task in one hour," said Stroumboulopoulos, a popular voice in the country's music scene thanks to his work at CBC Radio and MuchMusic. "What I worry about is if I can create a show that gives you an idea globally about what's cool and what's happening here ... reflecting the coast-to-coast-to-coast of this country."

After Stroumboulopoulos, Beats 1's Canadian "takeover" series will continue for four successive Saturdays at 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time:

- July 9: Josie Dye and Dine Alone Records
- July 16: Coeur de Pirate and Dare To Care Records
- July 23: Broken Social Scene's Kevin Drew representing Arts & Crafts Productions
- July 30: Metric's Emily Haines and Last Gang Records

Beats 1 has hosted similar country "takeovers" for Australia and Japan over the past year.

Beats 1 turned one year old on Thursday. Canada celebrated its 149th birthday on Friday.

All but one comment is about this dude's name.

That probably doesn't say much for Apple, Apple Music or Beats 1.

My last name has 3 letters; full name 8 letters. I can't even fathom that many letters in a name.

Nope.

how he fills out official gov. papers with this last name is what i really wanna know

Actually yes he does!

Man some people are downright low and pure ignorant ... making fun of a person's FAMILY NAME ... something we're all given and something that should NEVER be taking away and should ALWAYS be respected.

He started out straight out of High School as a Video Interviewer for Rock/Punk artists on CityTV via their MuchMusic TV Show which aired M-F 5-8PM EST and then soon after did interviews for actors that showed up on CityTV back filling for no-show staff on Breakfast Television and others and then BAM ended up having his very OWN show with CBS.

He's made a BIG name for himself interviewing Queen of England, parliament members of staff etc.

So ... what have YOU done to accelerate your family name ... besides breading?!

Are you his father by any chance?

I thought Strobe was a pretty decent interviewer when he was doing his show on the CBC. Music and sports not so much, but there's actually a little potential here for me. I'd give the show a listen.

MacRumors has been messing up quotes lately.

nah ... I just grew up with better decency than most here. I was fortunate to grew up with over a handful of cultures in school in each K12 year all varying. Just some don't get the courtesy and mutual respect that others like themselves SHOULD deserve. Further I've venture through various paths and areas where a snicker at a family name ended you up in a hospital or a shotgun leaving you a hole in your femur that after the operation and traction of 2 yrs you barely can walk and a hole the size of FIST in your thigh to remind you and others of such disgrace. And no the assailant never got arrested cause nobody said shizz - not even the wounded cause he done know better.

RE-READ what you typed and what I typed in full context you'll get it.

Oh well, I guess I'm a bad person.
I am 100% Greek and every time I see this guy's name I laugh out loud and I can definitely pronounce it.
It just sounds funny in Greek.

It's like a name you would make up to tell a story about a fat bartender.
Except I would give him the first name "Levendis."

And no I didn't beat up anyone on the playground....
