German users: Congstar working?

Does anyone in Germany have their iPhone working with Congstar?

I've got a congstar SIM card now.
However, there seem to be 2 problems

1.
The iPhone doesn't seem to recognize the name of the network - it just shows blank.
Now, I can live with that, but ...

2.
I can't set any GPRS / EDGE settings.
When I go to Settings -> General -> Network, there is only three options / sub-menus ('data roaming', VPN, and Wi-Fi).
But the iPhone clearly shows the 'E' at the top left, indicating that there is a data network.

Iphone 2G, firmware 2.1.

Does anyone have any ideas, pointers, insights?
