Gesture problem

iPad4, just bought it.
I use Squirrell mail. On my MacBook Air I select a vertically sliding screen by:
pointing the arrow at it
the arrow changes to a crosshair symbol
With my thumb I hit the lowest section of the trackpad holding it down
I can now drag the screen obscuring my mail down to wherever i want it
...How can I do that on an iPad?
