Does anyone know if I preorder a 16gb iPhone, can I take it into an Apple store or AT&T store after the 24th and pay extra to get a 32GB? The problem is that I'm not sure I will have enough for the 32GB on the 15th and I get paid on the 24th.

your best bet is to probably go into the store and reserve a 32gb one for the release date. you would get them on the same day, seems like so much more of a hassle to order one just for the purpose of returning it right when you get it. plus there's no guarantee that the store will have the 32gb when you go in to exchange, so reserving/holding one just cuts out that earlier step.

I don't know that but I do know that they won't charge you until about the 22nd... but either way you can't get a phone until the 24th so I would "camp out" or show up early, if you have a debit card they will run it as credit so even if the money is not there it wouldn't go through your bank for a day or two anyway so you should just do that. You will, no doubt, be safe.

How about instead of pre-ordering just reserve one?

Sure...why not?

Returns
If you are not satisfied with your Apple purchase, return it with the original receipt and original packaging within fourteen (14) calendar days of the date of purchase. If the item is returned unopened, in the original box, we will exchange it or offer a refund based only on the original payment method. Apple will mail a check within ten (10) business days for cash, cash equivalent, and check transactions over $250. Except where prohibited, a 10% restocking fee will apply to any non-defective item that requires Apple to perform rework prior to resale; please ask a Mac Specialist for details. Please note the following:

Opened software, memory, and other media can be exchanged for the same item, but cannot be returned for a refund.
Custom-configured products, including any personalized iPod, cannot be returned or exchanged.
Purchases made using a lease are subject to the terms of your lease agreement and cannot be returned.
Non-Apple products are sold by Apple “as is.” Consult the manufacturer for warranty terms and conditions.
Products can be returned only in the country in which they were originally purchased.
Note that, as an exception, you may return Apple branded software within the 14-day return period, and not be subject to a restocking fee, if you do not agree to the licensing terms, provided you do not retain any copies, including copies stored on a computer or other device and have not loaded the software onto a computer and used it. However, if your software includes a license that you can read before you break the seal or sticker on the software media packaging, you may not return the software once you break the software media packaging seal or sticker. In the event you have been charged more than the posted price for a product please see a Manager for a refund of any overcharge.

The other advice on pre-ordering, etc. is good...You would only have to do a return if you picked up a phone on the 24th and then on the 25th you go back to do a return/exchange.

I highly doubt there will be a shortage of stock so just wait and go buy one. If they aren't in stock then reserve one or borrow the $100 from someone. Lots of options here. My local Apple store is taking reservations on the iPad so I don't know why they wouldn't do it with the iPhone 4.

Hmmm, have you though that maybe if $100 is that significant to you, you probably shouldn't even be spending the $200 on the 16GB?

Priorities man.

Not really though... maybe he is a high school/ college student who lives at home and is fortunate enough to to pay any bills ie. gas/insurance and can just spend his paychecks on whatever.

I got my priorities straight. I am about to obtain my Master's degree. I can afford the 32GB, I just had to pay off school expenses related to my degree and will have PLENTY of money on the 24th. I'm good. If you need a loan let me know. As for the advise, thanks.

That's real cute.
