Not as good as the $249 black Friday deal but still a good price if you just need a basic iPad for media consumption.

Thought about getting an iPad for my parents, so it's a bit unfortunate that there was no update for the holiday season on this model. I can't get past buying the A14 in late 2024 when they're on iPhone 15 now...

Probably just me and they most likely wouldn't notice, but can't bite on the deal 😆

Great deal on a modern iPad! I’ll definitely sign up for the Deals Newsletter. I’m really just here for the deals, and the company news wasn’t for me, to be honest. Thanks!

It's $249 at Costco but you have to keep checking in to find stock and only in blue recently.

We picked one up from Costco over the weekend at the $249 price. It is the blue model. It's super light and thin! Buyer beware, if one of the Costco staff prints out the slip you take to the register. The printed a slip for the 9th gen instead of the 10th. We paid for it, not realizing and brought it to the merch pickup area. They said they were out. So we went to another local Costco. It was then then we realized they had printed the wrong slip. 🤷‍♂️ The transfer from the old iPad to the new was super simple and easy. Transferred directly from the old to the new.

Why is everyone bashing the CPU? have you used one of these? For $250.00 get one for your mother in law and she will love you forever.

You don’t know my mother-in-law. She would loudly complain that the iPad 10th Gen is “for poor people” and outright refuse to use it.

Not joking. I wish I was joking, but I’m not. I would be very appreciative to receive the iPad 10th Gen. It’s a very nice tablet. But not everybody agrees.

Sigh… Merry Christmas… lol

It sounds like “you chose poorly”…. Just kidding 😂

I have some family like that and they get exactly nothing for Christmas. I’ll spend my money on people that are grateful for what I get them.

Better prices were available last week. But for a basic iPad, at $279, it is still a good buy. It won't be getting Apple Intelligence, but it should be getting software updates for many years.

it does everything a tablet does in excellent way.
No it doesn't. I have an iPad 9 now, which has the A13 so just one year older CPU than this. And it's horrible now, terribly laggy. Have to restart if frequently as it cannot really handle iPadOS 18, keyboard is almost impossible to use in some apps/websites due to extreme lag.
Everything reloads all the time and it takes forever to do most things. Extremely frustrating.

I upgraded my 9th gen to the 10th. I won't say that you don't experience what you experience, but it (the 10th gen) easily does everything that a tablet does in an excellent way in MY experience.

Media consumption, USB-C dongle/hub functionality is excellent (surprised me at just how usable it is), landscape-oriented camera, and performance.

I use my iPad for media consumption, web browsing, office productivity, knowledge work, and remotely connecting to my work virtual machine.

Web browsing is just fine. But then again, I don't use Safari but Microsoft Edge with its built-in ad-blocking. So maybe that makes a difference. (Edge on my 9th gen was fine as well)

Sure it probably works fine for most people, for now. But in a year or two...
The iPad 11 however, which should be out in a few months, will most likely have current hardware(so it can handle Apple Intelligence). The CPU should be an A17 or even A18, so 3-4 years newer CPU which is many many times faster. That plus 8GB RAM will be a giant performance leap and should make the that iPad last for many many years.

So I think now is a terrible time to buy an iPad 10, the iPad 11 won't cost much more but provide a huge upgrade. Performance wise it's like going from an iPhone 12 to an iPhone 16. And it makes even more difference on an iPad where you likely have more tabs and heavier apps than on an iPhone.
(I'm sure you would agree it would be stupid to buy an iPhone 12 now if you could get a 16 for the same price in a few months)

My wife has an iPad 9 that exhibits none of this behavior. It sounds like yours has more issues than a (relatively) old processor.

I have the tenth gen, though with 256GB. Best portable media consumption device I’ve ever had. Also perfect for business travel, where I typically need access only to email and my employer’s web-based CRM. And that means I don’t need to lug the large and heavy Surface Pro laptop they gave me, which itself can convert to the world’s heaviest, least ergonomic tablet.

Apple nailed it with the iPad. It fits exactly where Jobs said it would in the product and usage line. And this is a great deal for one.

I feel a little weird pointing out the very obvious, but: the iPad 10th Gen isn’t the iPad 9th Gen. You’re judging the performance of the iPad 10th Gen based your experience with the iPad 9th Gen.

Also, I think there might just be something wrong with your iPad 9th Gen (something other than the processor being a little underpowered compared to a current-day A-series chip). What you described is not typical behavior.

It's a 2020(A14) CPU vs a 2019(A13). Not really a noticeable difference.
I've been using Apple iOS products for 15 years so I know very well that after a few years of iOS updates they tend to slow down.
It's the same with my iPhone XR now, it's also extremely slow and laggy with iOS 18.

It depends on the usage I suppose. My iPad is my "main computer". I use it for everything and for example have multiple browsers with hundreds of tabs.
It had no issues with that the first 2 years, but now.... not so much.

I love mine. I use a proper laptop equally as much, but I love how convenient it is to take the iPad to a meeting. The battery life still amazes me (11 months owner).

I’m not doubting that you are having issues with your iPad. It seems very clear that you are having issues. It just seems that your issues maybe aren’t typical. Be that as it may, I will kindly reiterate that the iPad 9th Gen isn’t the iPad 10th Gen.

And I'll keep reiterating that it's a soon 5 year old vs soon 6 year old CPU.
It's a terrible deal today. It'll last maybe a year if you're lucky before it'll feel sluggish. Wait 3 months and you'll get an 11th gen with a modern CPU and much more RAM that should last 4-5 years.
