Hi,

My friend's brother-in-law recently passed away, and his family is trying to get into his computer and iphone 5 to try to sort out his business. They know very little about tech so they can't even tell me what kind of computer it is (so i assume not an Apple) but the phone is definitely an iPhone 5 and they don't have the passcode. Assuming this is the computer he used with iTunes, can the phone passcode be reset or bypassed that way? Apple has not been any help.

If you are jailbroken and have access via SSH (or USB via i-FunBox and the like), then yes.
Otherwise, a restore is the only way to "get rid" of the passcode, losing all data of course.

Having the computer you sync iTunes with is not much help for this.

yeah, i have no idea if the phone is jailbroken. is there a way to tell from the lock screen? it still receives calls/texts
