I have a Clamshell with some dust spots on the screen, and I'd like to replace the LCD. I bought an LCD from another Clamshell, but unfortunately, the connector is in a different position, so my current cable won't work. Now I have one Clamshell with a dusty screen and a spare LCD. I've found another Clamshell with a broken screen, and I'm wondering if it uses the same screen as my spare one. If it does, I can buy it, replace the screen, and end up with two functional Clamshells. Before proceeding, I need to ask the seller to check the screen model. Is it possible to do this using OS9?

It looks like there were four model numbers for the clamshells:
I wouldn't be surprised if they changed LCD display models when they changed video chips to the Rage 128, with the video hardware changing radically enough the connector may have also. So you might be able to go by the color of the clamshell. But if your two are from the same "model" then that theory goes out the door...

As far as I know there's no way to query the LCD model, especially from MacOS 9. Not saying it isn't possible some way, but have never seen it.

It MIGHT be possible to tell the LCD model just by looking EXTREMELY closely (magnifying glass) at the screen or peering through the bezel...

I have two blueberries that worked for ages, but one day opened one and what looked like corrosion on the screen almost like a mild acid burn. I absolutely hadn't spilled anything on it, and kept climate controlled and closed, so just marked it down to the bonding glue breaking down or something similar. Hopefully same thing won't happen with remaining one.
