Hi. I have an mp3 album on my iPhone that I would like to be able to transfer to my Mac. Is this possible? I used to have it on my old Mac, but now longer have it anymore, as I lost all old data on my old Mac. Thanks so much

Not something Apple supports… music can sync from computer to phone but not the other direction.

I think there’s a 3rd-party app that’ll do it, don’t recall the name. But just “plugging it in” ain’t gonna do it.

There used to be an app called DiskAid that did it, but that was literally years ago and I have no idea whether it's still around or still works.

With AirDrop it's easy to do, and no third party apps are needed. On the Mac, go into finder and from the menu bar, pick "Go" and then "AirDrop". This should open the AirDrop window on your Mac. At the bottom of the window, change "Allow me to be discovered by" to "Everyone". On the iPhone, find the music you want to transfer. (I usually do pictures right from Photos app, but suppose you can find your music in the Files app, if not elsewhere) Long press on it, and pick "Share". In the pane that opens, tap on the AirDrop icon". You should see an icon for your Mac. Tap it. Then, back on your Mac, you should see the request to share the file or folder. Just press "Accept" to start the transfer.

^ agree with this, AirDrop should work, if your MP3 album is in the Files app and not the Music app.

Worst case, you can also just send the MP3s/folder from the Files app to yourself through email via the Mail app, and open up that email account on your Mac, then download it from there. Or even just upload the MP3s to the Files app iCloud Drive section, and open that up on your Mac.

Thanks so much for your reply! Your suggestion to use AirDrop would be great, but I can't seem to find a way to see my mp3-files in the Files app. Is there any way to see the files on my iPhone, perhaps another app?

Yeah, AirDrop would only work if they're in Files. They probably are not; likely it was synced using iTunes or Music app.

So, you're down to finding some 3rd party app like mentioned earlier - or just re-rip or re-download the files on the computer. It's intentionally difficult, I presume due to Apple's licensing deals with music producers.
