get new battery from Apple service?

My GF got 1gen 8GB iphone, last week her phone was slipped out from pocket and fall into basin full with water while she on a call in lavatory. The phone gone dead for moment and unable to switch off. After a few days let it alone, she tried again, the iphone is alright except the power button unable to lock the screen and the battery is dead, the phone have to relay depend on charger to use. For this condition is it possible for her to get it fixed at apple service or it's totally pointless to do it.

Apple won't service or replace water-damaged iPhones; they'll refer you to your carrier to buy a new one.
