Get original Watch instead of pulse-watch?

My wife's birthday is coming up and after having tried my training-watch with GPS and HR she wants one too.

Looked at offers online and saw the original Apple Watch can be had for almost the same price as the running watch.

Does it make sense to get it now as they are clearing stores?

The original watch has no standalone GPS so if she wants location functionality, she would need to carry the iPhone with her during activities.

The first Gen Watch Apple Watch is still plenty capable and works efficiently with the latest Software. If your wife plans on using it for fitness, it works great for its current capabilities.
