Is there any way I can uninstall or otherwised get rid of the classic mode in my OS? My computer is pretty heavily loaded and I was thinking it might be a way I could free it up a bit without losing anything I might ever use.

Or, would it be just stupid, risking messinig up the OS for miniscule gains?

The meat of Classic mode is the Mac OS 9 System Folder and the Mac OS 9 Applications folder. pitch both of those, and you've gained just about all you are going to get back from it. Anything left in the Mac OS X system would be only a few MBs and you'd be saving more space by cleaning your Safari cache or something like that.
