Best Buy this week is taking $200 off several models of the M3 MacBook Air from 2024, with deals focusing mainly on the 13-inch versions of the computer. Prices start at just $699.00 for the 256GB M3 MacBook Air, down from $899.00.

Note: MacRumors is an affiliate partner with Best Buy. When you click a link and make a purchase, we may receive a small payment, which helps us keep the site running.

You'll also find the 16GB RAM/512GB SSD M3 MacBook Air on sale for $899.00 and the 24GB RAM/512GB SSD M3 MacBook Air on sale for $1,099.00. All of these represent record low prices on the computer and right now only Best Buy has the deals.

Apple's original price on the 256GB 13-inch M3 MacBook Air was $1,099.00, so Best Buy's price today represents a huge discount on the previous generation computer.

If you're on the hunt for the newest M4 MacBook Air, some deals remain at Amazon this week. You can get the entry-level 256GB 13-inch M4 MacBook Air for $849.00 ($150 off) and the 256GB 15-inch M4 MacBook Air for $1,049.00 ($150 off).

Keep up with all of this week's best discounts on Apple products and related accessories in our dedicated Apple Deals roundup.

It's getting harder to justify buying refurbs when off-the-shelf configs have sale prices like these, even though I'm a big fan of Apple refurbs.
The knock is that this is the M3 and comes with all the limitations of the M3. Most people using the machine for work are better off picking up an M4 MBA on sale (24 GB of RAM) or even holding out for an M5 MBA.

This looks like a good deal. I will be in the market for a new laptop soon.

Considering I may be migrating my phone to a Samsung/Motorola (flip) because of no Apple replacement for my 13 Mini, that will take me out of the Apple ecosystem & kill this potential MacBook deal.

heck of a deal, unless you really need true dual monitor support this is a no brainer.
If $699 for a 13-inch M3 MacBook Air 16/256 and $899 for a 13-inch M3 MacBook Air 16/512 are considered a no brainer, then what is $749 for a 13-inch M4 MacBook Air 16/256 and $949 for a 13-inch M4 MacBook Air 16/512 ($50 more each) considered?

That's what the prices will be during Apple's Back-to-School sale when you account for the $150 Apple Gift Card.

Best Buy's probably running this sale because they don't want to be stuck with old M3 MacBook Air's when M4's are only $50 more after the $150 Apple gift card.

Curious why leaving the Apple ecosystem would preclude you from using a Mac. It's not like the Mac can't run Chrome, Spotify, or link up to Google Drive or OneDrive as a file provider in the Finder.

Because the only reason for me to buy a MacBook is to be synced in Apple’s ecosystem (texts, notes, reminders etc). I am very happy with Windows 11.

Agree this is a good deal. Just note this model will likely get 1 year less support than a new MacBook Air M4, which currently sells for about $850 -- only $150 more for the same RAM/storage configuration.

For those who replace their laptops every 3-5 years, the extra year of life on the M4 won't make a difference. But for those who like to keep their laptops until the end, the extra $150 for one extra year is $12.5/month (not counting the opportunity cost today for the extra year of life at the end).

The M3 is still a great chip and likely more than enough power for those already in the MacBook Air target segment. Just make sure you know whether you are a buy and hold or a continuous refresh type.

For those wondering, it is the 16/256 config, so a great deal for people who want a Mac laptop on a budget.

There are even open box options from $597.99 and refurbished options from $629.99 (yes, same M3/16/256 config). Crazy prices all round for a previous-gen Apple laptop.

At $699 no doubt it is a great deal. It will get one year less software than the newest models but it still will get many more years of updates. Definitely it is a deal to consider. Cannot go wrong by purchasing this one.

To each his own - objectively there are plenty of reasons to buy a MacBook Air that is unrelated to the ecosystem, but not everyone cares about those. For those that want a Mac, this is a great buy. For those who don’t, price is irrelevant, and thus so is their opinion on it.

This machine only came out last year so you could reasonably expect software updates until 2030 (give or take a year) and security updates for 2 years after. A 5-7 year lifespan for a comparatively low end laptop is pretty good to be honest.

I am now working full time for myself, so it's tempting to pick up one of these as a backup for my M3 Max 14" MBP in case something ever brought it down and I have to wait for an AppleCare repair to return. But I'm considering getting a Mac mini for my kids anyway to setup in a family area so they can start learning real computers, so I'll probably setup an account on there with my stuff instead. But this price is really tempting, especially for such a thin and lightweight laptop that has a serviceable amount of memory.

With more power efficient chips on smaller nodes coming down the pipeline, and a rumored slimming down of the MacBook Pros (not really needed but whatever), and the upcoming iPhone 17 Air being super thin, I hope that they lean even harder into making the MacBook Air as thin and light as possible while still maintaining at least 12 hours of battery life. If they go OLED with adaptive refresh rate and a 2nm M6 in 2026, it will be really tempting to pick up an Air as a secondary device for working light while traveling. Especially if they can shrink the bezels even more to tighten up the dimensions. Imagine a sub-2lb MacBook Air.

For anyone that can shop of the AAFES or Military exchange, they have been having really good deals on Apple products, such as $250 off the M4 MacBook Air deals off and on for the last few weeks.

I signed up for a MilStar CC for an additional 10% off the first purchase, and was able to get my wife the base model M4 15" MBA for only $854.10, so $344.90 off retail.

The 13" had the same $250 off, so with a MilStar card sign up, you could get a new 13" M4 MacBook Air for only $674.10.

The deal is gone now, but most likely will be back soon, so be on the look out. Might be before then, but maybe the 4th of July holiday.

I've been using Apple machines since 1989 and ever since around 2006 always went with MBP, I tried an Air a few times, the tapered model but they just didn't work for my workload even though I loved the portability.
Say 'HELLO' to the M models and I've literally never looked back, I recently just upgraded my M2 Air for the M4 15" with 24GB RAM, these things are astonishing. Right now I have Xcode, Safari, Postman, Slack, Mail, Notes, Affinity Photo 2, ChatGPT, Chrome and the App Store open and this thing just carries on like nothing is open.
The Air is just a no brainer these days and this is someone who would swear by the MBP after years of owning them. Now I no longer have a MBP.

2030? I will probalby be dead by then. I don't get these people that are worried about less than 5 years support since those are likely the same people that get a new device every year even though all they do is watch cat videos.

That's what the prices will be during Apple's Back-to-School sale when you account for the $150 Apple Gift Card.

Even so, you are still out of pocket $200 more so unless the gift card can be used to purchase something you already want or sold to someone for $150 you aren't really saving anything. It all comes down to budget and how you can use the gift card.

For anyone that can shop of the AAFES or Military exchange, they have been having really good deals on Apple products, such as $250 off the M4 MacBook Air deals off and on for the last few weeks.

No sales tax on top of that; I buy my Office365 subscriptions whenever they have them on sale.

The $699 MacBook Airs are now gone at Best Buy. No surprise, of course. But the question is, go for a base M4 MBA for $849 at Amazon now or wait for a lower price?

Wait three more weeks for a lower price if you can. I wouldn't be surprised to see some deals at 799 or 749 during the 4th of July weekend.
