Getting 3g working on yellowsn0w iphone

I've got my iphone 3g 75% running now with a vodafone uk sim, it works fine online with the edge service but in 3g mode when i go to safari i am told "Cannot open page, Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet."

my current settings are

apn: internet
username:
password:

I've also tried username and password as web and wap and wep but nothing

Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

This is odd but I'm down in Italy right now and had the same thing happen with Vodafone Italy. I have a Finnish sim so I just switch to TIM network and bang I had 3G. So maybe just try another network to confirm where the problem is.
