I currently have an Early 2009 mini with a 2.26 C2D and 4GB of ram. As part of a trade for my iPad w/ 3G I'm getting a 15" MacBook Pro with a T7700 (2.4ghz) processor and an 8600M GT (256MB I believe). I'll be upgrading the ram from the 2GB it has with some spare sticks I have (somewhere in the 4-6GB range). The screen on the MBP is broken, but works when connected to an external display.
Should I sell my mini and use the MBP as a desktop? I've always considered doing this, but is the T7700 and 8600M GT comparable in performance with the P series C2D and 9400? I know the P series uses less power, I'm more interest in performance. I do some light video editing, watch mostly HD videos, the occasional HD youtube video, and every so often I'll boot up Windows 7 to play a few games on steam (but that will be a thing of the past soon
).
I'm aware of the issues with 8600M graphics - I've already confirmed that I'll be able to get it fixed if there is a problem.
Thanks.
P.S. From the little bit of searching I've done - I haven't found much of a different between the CPUs and can't really find a clear difference about the GPUs - mostly just info about the 8600M replacements and some other information that doesn't help draw any conclusions.
