Hi,

I am planning on picking up a macbook pro before school starts this fall. I was wondering if they can upgrade the hard drive at the Apple Store?

Thanks,

I actually just had this same question.

Nope. BTO's must be done online.

So they don't carry anything but the base models with 250gb 5400rpm hard drives (for 15" MBP)? I want to upgrade to the 320gb 7200rpm. If that's true that really sucks. I will have to pay another $85 then because I'll have to pay tax if shipped.

If your hard drive crashes though can't you bring it in to the store to be replaced?

You can get it fixed at the Apple store, but they only carry stock configurations for retail.

They will upgrade the RAM, but not the hard drive if you purchase in the store.

Some Apple stores carry multiple confiturations of models (bigger hd, more ram, etc) in addition to the standard configs. All Apple stores will upgrade ram. They have a price/sku for it, but sometimes do it for free.
